Wouldn’t it be a good thing if JT appointed some non – politicians to the Senate – people who owed nothing to any political party or philosophy and who, through their life experience, being real workers in real jobs or caregivers, people who pay taxes, have genuine issues in their lives and understand what political decisions can mean for real people – would make the best Senators..but for a fixed term, say 8 years max…that way, fresh blood could be injected, and those who needed to get back to their own real world could do so..a win-win for the country at large..real citizens helping to make thoughtful decisions..
Would I put myself forward? Well *blush modestly* yes, I would..but don’t know if I could stand a winter in Ottawa..that might be more than I could handle..and I owe nothing to any political party, although, briefly, I did join the NDP back in the day (kiss of death for any Senate appointment, any time..)..but I’m a retired worker, a one-time union activist and I rant and rail regularly here and elsewhere…so probably don’t have a prayer, anyway…
